Painting

My endeavour to paint was short but instructive. My mother was a highly skilled hyperrealist painter, and in an attempt to follow in her footsteps, I picked up a brush myself. Though I learned a great deal, I quickly realized it wasn’t my preferred medium— I was too impatient for oils and couldn't achieve what i wanted with acrylics.

My favourite painting project was the one I did while studying art history, where I created a 3D painting in response to Yves Klein’s Anthropométries—a series in which he used nude women as "living brushes," directing their paint-covered bodies to leave imprints on canvas while he, impeccably suited, orchestrated the scene.

For my thesis, I staged an intimate performance in front of his work at the Pompidou in Paris. Acting as both creator and creation—my own brush and canvas—I held up my piece for the camera, turning my back to Klein’s work in a quiet, cheeky reversal of his dynamic. A fleeting experiment, but one that taught me more about my own artistic instincts than any traditional canvas could.
