Film animation

Before becoming a ceramic artist, I worked as an independent film animator. With a BFA in film animation from Concordia University, I was interested in creating work that entertains solutions to encourage sustainable lifestyles, promote respect for our environment and educate about human rights. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work on some award-winning documentary films. Most notably: Ivey Camille Manybeads Tso's documentary film Powerlands, about the displacement of Indigenous people and devastation of the environment caused by the extractive industry. As well as Naila and the Uprising, directed by Julia Bacha. This film chronicles the remarkable journey of Naila Ayesh and a fierce community of women at the frontlines, whose stories weave through the most vibrant, nonviolent mobilization in Palestinian history, the First Intifada in the late 1980s. In this last work, I worked with a team of animators, we used an under-camera, hand-drawn method using watercolour crayon on under-lit film, creating the aesthetics of a moving charcoal drawing.

I also worked on various films using stop-motion clay animation, including an educational music video for the Sesame Street Channel & The Match, a film commissioned for The Burgundy Lion football film festival. I was the official Peas & Beans animator offering a tradition 2d “cartoon” style animation. I also worked as an extra animator on award winning documentary The Chaperone.
